Fishing Cactus

Fishing Cactus is a belgian game development company based in Mons, 15 minutes from Valenciennes.

We are a french speaking game studio and are both actively developing games as a service (porting and game development for third party publishers) but also developing our own IPs. For the past 2 years, our focus has been to gradually increase the number of original IPs in development, our last released game is Epistory, an atypical typing game for PC available on Steam.

We are currently looking for several programmers with intermediate or advanced experience in Javascript HTML5 game development for short term porting missions (bringing flash games to native html5 using a conversion tool and existing libraries, the main job lies in debugging and optimizing). Fishing Cactus has developed a very unique skillset and expertise in porting Flash games to HTML5 for the past years. We are looking to strengthen our team with new profiles.
Having a background or knowledge in Flash development will give you an edge but we are considering entry level positions with relevant knowledge or game development experience.

This is a full-time position at our studio in Mons, Belgium for a minimum 6 months contract. Freelance approach is welcome but will require a mandatory 3 months training period on site. In both cases, accommodations (shared company apartment) can be considered.

A technical test might be required prior to any interview depending on skills and experience.

Profil du candidat

  • Computer science degree or equivalent experience
  • JavaScript development (including debugging and optimizing)
  • Knowledge of WebGL and Canvas API
  • Experience with at least a version control system such as Git
  • OpenFL, ActionScript 2/3 and/or Haxe knowledge or experience is a huge plus
  • 1+ year in game development or equivalent game development degree is a plus
  • You can read and write in English on a daily basis
  • English speaking is a plus but not mandatory
  • You consider yourself a swiss knife, switching from one tech to another is not a problem
  • You believe in shared knowledge, delegated ownership and collective code reviewing
  • Can-do attitude, flexible to change, willing to daily challenge yourself
  • One of your mottos is : « there is always something to improve »
  • You can show ability to work in a multiple tasks environment and can manage changing priorities
  • You show and test the games you make to ensure they are of the best quality
  • You value people and happiness at work !
