Under the supervision of the IT Manager, the IT specialist will handle day to day issues within the studio (around 70 users) as a first point of contact for HelpDesk and infrastructure needs.

Senior Game Designer

Position Duties

  • Takes ownership of the game mechanics and strategies, makes a plan for how they should be used in game, and works closely with Programming, Animation and Designers to drive development towards the vision laid out by the Creative Director ;
  • Create game systems that answer the needs of the Creative Director with regard to the targeted experience for the player, while observing the production directives of the game ;
  • Standardize, document and communicate the systems to the game team. Regularly update documentation to offer a useful work reference to the whole team, at all time ;
  • Participate actively to the production of prototypes in order to adjust and validate systems prior to starting production. Assess the success of prototypes by measuring how objectives are met ;
  • Adjust the game to allow the player to elaborate valid strategies in phase with the experience sought (with balance in mind) ;
  • Define the tactics and challenges of the player to be used within the game missions ;
  • Create a control scheme that is both comfortable and easily mastered, by applying the relevant ergonomic principles (accessibility and usability) ;
  • Define the information needed by the player to make interesting choices and adapted to his/her situation in the game, interface or menus. Collaborate with Graphic, Audio, Programming and scripted event teams (and others) to ensure the optimal communication of this information ;
  • Participate to the development of tools required to implement and adjust game systems in collaboration with Programmers (direct access to systems variables and logics)
  • Perform any other related tasks, as required.

Candidate Profile

Key Skills/Qualifications :
  • Shipped at least 1 title (ideally strategic or deck building game)
  • A minimum of 4-5 years experience working within the Game Industry.
  • Highly proficient in system design ;
  • Experience in Game Balancing ;
  • Passion for creating fun, compelling and addictive user experiences.
  • Good project management skills , time management skills with a proven ability to focus on priorities, solve problems, juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, all while maintaining a positive outlook.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences on a broad range of topics, e.g. technical, business and creative (spoken and written)
  • Genuine interest and passion for games, especially strategy and board gaming.
  • Previous experience in game system design
  • Capable of working with little to no direct supervision.
  • a minimum of 4-5 years experience working specifically in game design ;
  • A College Diploma or Degree in video game level design and production or equivalent work/educational experience.

Bonus Skills :
  • Strategy or Deck building Game Design Experience ;
  • Experience utilizing the Unity Game Engine ;
  • Original IP development experience
  • Experience in utilizing JIRA task management.
