VFX Artist

Position Duties

As a VFX Artist, you work as part of the visual effects team to design, develop, and implement real-time particle effects which use both static and animated 2D/3D elements. We expect you to be able turn wild ideas into awe-inspiring reality through visual effects while also working with other development team members to ensure technical feasibility.

What you will do :
  • Closely collaborate with the Art and Creative directors to create VFX of all range that are stunning and high quality using proprietary real time particle systems.
  • Work with animators and designers to integrate VFX into gameplay mechanics and ability to adhere to a cohesive aesthetic as set forth by the Creative Director.
  • Be responsible for project deadlines while scaling your work back or ramping up according to the needs of the project.
  • Manage delivery of project's environments and assets on schedule and provide schedule estimates for asset production.
  • Break down challenging or open-ended requests into actionable tasks, examine feasible options.
  • Build comprehensive knowledge of the VFX art production pipelines, tools, and systems associated with the creation of VFX content.
  • Develop and improve your skillset and abilities by staying active and aware of industry trends and techniques, evaluating competitive products, learning new software packages, and putting traditional art methods into practice.

Candidate Profile

What you have :
  • University or equivalent degree.
  • 1 + years minimum in the game industry (Significant contribution to at least 1 shipped game)
  • Portfolio that demonstrates special effects within a released game or game engine.
  • Proficiency with 3ds Max, Maya, and/or similar software.
  • Breadth of artistic styles, passionate in creating high-quality particle effects and textures.
  • Thorough understanding of shader techniques as applied to visual effects.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of optimization and performance for visual effects.
  • Work in an organized and timely fashion.
  • Excellent sense of scale and composition/framing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for gaming.

Desired skills as a plus
  • Familiarity with a proprietary engines, tools and material creation.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Houdini for pyro, fluid, and soft/rigid body dynamics.
  • Experience in a secondary area such as texturing, modeling, skinning, animation, or lighting.
  • Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages.
  • Solid understanding of rendering techniques, PBR shaders, physics, lighting, etc.
  • The ability to create, document, and maintain VFX and shader libraries for other artists to utilize is desirable.
