Fishing Cactus

We are from rainy Belgium, Mons, Wallonia. Belgians may be known for not having a government but we have awesome beers and chocolate. At Fishing Cactus, it also happens that 25 of us craft games with their hearts. Games which are, we hope, more than forgettable escapism, games leaving you with a feeling of change. Games we like to make, games we like to play.

Our current focus is on PC / Console titles. We are known for our typing games franchise Epistory and Nanotale but we are working on even more ambitious projects.

Tech Animator 3D


Permanent contract Mons (Belgium)

Position Duties

Fishing Cactus is currently looking for an experienced 3D animator with some technical background to reinforce its team on unannounced ambitious projects.

Directly integrated into a production team, you will have a prominent role across the development of our projects. For the team and project manager, you are one of the main points of contact for all animations matters. For specific needs, you can be in charge of motion capture sessions.

MISSIONS :
  • Setup, Rig and Animate 3D models of biped or quadruped characters
  • Prototype and quick draft of placeholder animations
  • Ensure optimization, consistency and quality of the animations
  • Lead and manage motion capture session if any
  • Integrate the animations into the current project and solve animation-tight gameplay challenges
  • Meet deadlines and respect the technical limitations

Candidate Profile

CORE SKILLS :
  • Advanced level of proficiency in a major 3D animation package
  • Knowledge of Blender animation pipeline
  • Advanced understanding of animation needs for a real-time game project
  • Knowledge in techniques of rigging and skinning for character animation
  • Capable of delivering quick placeholder animations (through Mixamo or other libraries)
  • Not afraid of complex technical animation implementation, tight gameplay related integrations and debugging (tech background).
  • Experience with Unreal or Unity
  • Familiar with Git and content integration in a game engine

PEOPLE SKILLS :
  • Good instincts for motion design and what makes a good game animation
  • Core for details, polish and the look and feel of the final product (a game)
  • Dedicated to individual and team growth
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both virtually and in person
  • Collaborative attitude & responsible autonomy : you are autonomous in a team, you identify and create your own tasks, you deal with problems and find solutions, individually or as a team.

PLUS :
  • Knowledge in storyboarding is a plus
  • Experience with motion capture process is a plus
  • Knowledge of motion design is a plus

Additional Information

LOCATION
We are open to a full remote position but some occasionnal IRL meetings will be required.
