Starchain Gazer

We are on a mission to free players from undesirable constraints coming from the part of today's game creators and allow users to take the wheel. By creating a game economy, we shift the definition of a successful title away from revenue towards real-world benefits for players, thus extending game longevity. Our vision is to be at the forefront of "Play & Earn" games through the implementation of blockchain as an underlying technology. We let gamers own game assets as they invest time and effort to gain power, skills, and ranking. By using game assets, gamers can make their value increase through leveling-up, crafting. Lend, borrow, sell and buy game assets. Gamers should be free to use their assets within a community of gamers in and outside the game itself.

Starchain Gazer is working on a 4X RTS [Hypercasualized] type game with the ambition to transition into an MMORPG. Our team is composed of 9 talents from DeFi Engineers, Game Designers, Full-Stack Developers, UX/UI Designers, Marketing & Community Manager...).

Art Director

Position Duties

We are looking for a highly skilled Game Art Director. You are a gamer at heart with a very strong game culture. You are an expert in design, game arts, character-shaping, illustration. 2D & 3D.

Art direction

We made the choice to orient the artistic direction between toon and stylized styles in order to address a wide audience. In order to guarantee the player a pleasant and fun immersion, we want to create a universe with vibrant and joyful colors. In fact, we tend to focus on idyllic worlds.

The Game Design is a work in progress, but it is certain that the gameplay will offer players a top view or isometric view camera, such as League of Legends or Civilization. The scale is still to be specified but the character will obviously be recognizable and his role and assets clearly readable from this view.

Moreover, as the game is intended for both computers and smartphones, the characters should be relatively low-poly models. The concept arts will have to take this aspect into consideration

As a Game Art Director, you will :
  • You will provide technical leadership and own the overall accountability of the game artistic direction
  • Creation & Design of the artistic creation process and associated technical aspects
  • Design of the game visual identity
  • Development of the game's graphic assets.
  • Being creative, quick, and efficient in the process of making (silhouettes, outfits, weapons, etc.).
  • Participation in creative thinking to design the game universe, in conjunction with the rest of the team
  • Participate in the recruitment process for graphic design teams (evaluate applications, prepare and evaluate technical tests, participate in interviews).
  • You gather or design the assets allowing the artists to understand what they have to produce (design, sketches, photo references, examples, etc.).
  • Check the assets produced from a qualitative, quantitative, and technical point of view and give leads to improve them if necessary.
  • Assist in the planning of production sprints by evaluating tasks with the teams.
  • Working with game designers, game artists, blockchain developers to supervise the implementation of game assets according to your instruction.
  • Participate in documentation of the platform, features, and tools.
  • Create and maintain a working environment based on commitment and rigor, but also proximity and fun
  • Ensure and animate good communication and collaboration across your teams, and with the rest of the company.

Candidate Profile

  • You have a compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality art direction and concepts across a variety of projects.
  • You are passionate, driven, and obsessed about your craft and stay on top of best practices in your fields.
  • A degree in Design, Interaction Design, Visual Studies, or other design-related fields is preferred.
  • Extensive experience using the most common software.
  • Extensive game art production experience, including successful experience in management
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of art and visual design including composition and color theory
  • Significant experience with character art preferred
  • Mastery in identifying existing visual styles and the ability to implement them.
  • A well-honed vision of game experience and a very good eye for detail
  • Strong Game 4X and Strategy game culture is a real advantage
